Will Virtually Force
People To Read Your
E-Mail And Respond
With Orders!
 

In this article we want to discuss focusing on e-mail techniques. We’ll assume that you’re not sending out “spam” - the Internet term for junk e-mail.

In past articles, we have discussed e-mail marketing techniques to a point. We’ve mention that you use a list of e-mail addresses to send your messages to a targeted group of people. If you’re going to do this and really take it seriously, you’re going to want to create powerful e-mail that will sell and will capture attention.

Towards that end, we are now going to provide you with ten power words that will virtually force people to read your e-mail and respond with orders. These power words are vital, and I want to stress that the ten power words I am going to cover are not the only power words.

With e-mail there are a few differences over the average advertising headline techniques that I particularly want to deal with. For example, e-mails have subject lines. When a person receives your e-mail you want to be aware of the fact that the first thing they see is the subject line. Your subject can literally be an introduction to a headline. It should be written in such a way that it is not a headline, but a tantalizing tease instead.

For example, instead of a subject line that says, “Make more money fast!” you might try, “$10,000 is waiting for you.” if that applied to your offer. (I am just using examples here out of the blue.)

Rather than “Easy work at home.” you could have, “$11.50 an hour in your bathrobe!” as a subject matter. The idea here is to focus on specifics. You always want to do that with headlines. In this case, you want to make your subject lines specific and tantalizing, teasing someone into at least looking. If you tell them too much, they’re not going to open it.

Rather than, “Make money building doll houses,” for example, you could try something catchy like, “Construction boom hits doll industry.” The idea is to focus on teasing the reader, keeping in mind that your subject line is something that needs to be making that person want to look to see what it is. Once they’ve clicked on it and opened the e-mail, the power and the strength of your headline can come into play.

You’ve only got maybe two to three seconds to grab that e-mail reader! Most people are looking at several e-mails at a time.

They’ve opened their box and there may be 15 of them waiting. There could be five other advertising messages in there. You’ve got to convince that reader to keep reading once you’ve tantalized them with that subject matter.

This is where those power words will play such a vital role for you. Writing good headlines is an art form, and it’s one you really should study, learn, and perfect for yourself.

Here is a list of my favorite ten hot power words:

10. GUARANTEED

That’s only ten of maybe 150 words that can be really powerful! Add to this list! There are thousands of power words out there with varying degrees of power, but these are my favorite ten.

Here’s a good example. Put “$500 instant cash in your pocket this afternoon!” in your headline. This headline uses a number of these power words. The more you can pack in, the more power you’re packing!

Next, you can use a strong sub-head that leads into your actual message. For example, that “Put $500.00 instant cash in your pocket this afternoon...” and smaller sub-head, “and $1,500.00 cash tomorrow.” I’d read that!

Here’s another idea that could be really good. You can actually start your headline in your subject, if you write it carefully, and have it with an ellipsis (the ...) continue to the headline that they read when they open the e-mail. Split it into two tantalizing teasers!

But really work on making those subject lines, headlines, and sub-heads work together, utilizing as many power words as possible. And really perfecting, and learning, and mastering the art of writing the good headline and you’ll watch your e-mail really kick some profits into your pocket.

We’ve helped people get in the newspaper, and in magazines such as National Geographic, Reader’s Digest, and Wall Street Journal. There’s no reason you can’t get on news.com!

And, Instead of only 1,000 subscribers or a quarter of a million TV viewers seeing it, you have a chance of up to ten million people seeing your news story absolutely free! We can’t even imagine what it would cost to put your message in front of ten million people with standard advertising and marketing techniques. If you did direct mail, and the typical direct mail costs about fifty cents per piece, that would cost you five million dollars!

So, the potential is there to get five million dollars worth of free advertising. That would be the absolute top end. The lowest end, should your news release be accepted, could be about a half a million dollars worth of free advertising just by sending a news release to news.com. Your cost is nothing. You just write the release, click your mouse, and send it off.

Go to news.com every day. Study what stories are on there, what they’re looking for, what their style is, and then try to see someway you can condition your offer and send it off to news.com. See what could happen there!

Another note worth discussing is publicity lists. Gebbie Press has a list of all the editors of magazines, newspapers, television people, and columnists. They have a free disk that you can get. Here’s a pretty simple idea that a lot of marketers we’ve seen have totally overlooked - namely, participating in discussion forums and discussion groups on the Internet.

Some people are familiar with the old computer bulletin boards and the computer bulletin board systems that used to be around several years ago. A lot of the discussion forums on the Internet are basically glorified bulletin board systems for people to share information and knowledge that they have and ask questions of other people. People that may be experts answer the questions. They just get together and communicate about various topics.

While you cannot blatantly advertise on these discussion forums, you can use them to your advantage to get free advertising - We’ve done it - it’s how you could bring in truckloads of cash with Internet discussion boards! Here’s how we did it - and how you could do it, too!

First of all, there are many discussion forums out there. If you’ve been on the Internet and looked around, you’ll see that there are discussion forums on just about any topic you could imagine. The market that we service is the business opportunity market.

There are a lot of marketing forums. There are also forums for gardening, cooking, etc. There are lots of different forums. Their only purpose is to serve as a board where people can post their questions or comments and have other people respond to them. You’ll find that some of these discussion forums have hundreds and hundreds of people, maybe thousands of people, who visit them and participate in them.

Just by being involved in these discussion forums, without advertising, you can let people know you have a web site that is along the same topic that the discussion forum caters to. When you’re submitting your response, your question, or your statement on the forum, most of them have a place at the bottom of the post where it says enter your web site address. You can enter your web site address. There’s another line that says enter a brief description of your web site. You can list a brief description. Some of them even have a place where you can actually post a graphic. Not only would you have your address with a brief description, but it would also list a small graphic, maybe a banner ad or something that gave a little more information about your site.

Remember, you don’t want to blatantly advertise on these discussion forums. Every time you participate, every time you ask a question, and every time you answer a question, you can put that link to your web site on there and say “By the way, I have a web site that you might be interested in. Click here to go right there.” People can click on it and go right to your web site.

There are three kinds of people that visit discussion forums. The first kind is the people who ask the questions or make the statements on the discussion forum. The second kind is the people who answer the questions. If you visit discussion forums, you’ll notice that sometimes there are a lot more people answering questions than asking. The third kind is the people who visit the board, read the questions, read the answers, but don’t actually participate. Those are the people that you never really see or hear from. You know there are a lot more of those people on the discussion forum than those that are participating. While you may only see fifty or sixty people who have their name there by a response or a question, there may be hundreds of people that have visited and seen your responses and your advertisement leading back to your web site.

That’s just a simple idea. You can’t really blatantly advertise, but you can get the free advertising by participating on the board as much as you can, responding to people’s questions, and using that free link that they let you put at the bottom to draw people back to your web site. Some forums attract hundreds, or even thousands of people that could be good potential customers every day . . . so why not get involved and let them know you’re out there?

We have a friend who has a newsletter. When he first started his newsletter, he began visiting the discussion boards. He basically answered people’s questions...and at the bottom of every message he posted was a little link.

When people would click on that link, an audio responder would send them a copy of his newsletter by e-mail. The responder did all the work, sent our friend the orders, and would keep half the money.

So, just by answering a few questions, our friend had hundreds of people subscribe! It cost the people $97 a year to subscribe, and our friend split the money with the audio responder. The more you’re able to create a sense of fear in that prospect - a feeling of dread, that if they don’t do exactly what you say they’re not going to get that great product - The more urgent it will be to that prospect to buy what you have to offer.

After all, if you’ve got a lot of positive feedback up for prospective buyers to check out, they’re going to see that you’re very trustworthy and honorable in your sales, and they’re going to know you’re a safe person to buy from!

In a magazine I read once - I think it was Family Circle - there was an article where they said that their most popular column over all the years was “Can this marriage be saved?”

There’s a guy in El Paso, Texas that puts out books and videos and cassette tapes about alien visitation. I noticed when I saw the catalog of his offers, he had a lot of offers submitted by readers.

He would ask his readers to submit their articles, or their story, regarding alien visitation. Now I didn’t know it was that common. Maybe some of them make up the story, or maybe some of them believed they were true, who knows. He was creating all kinds of books and booklets just because of what his readers submitted. It doesn’t have to be money-making, cookbooks, home business... probably any one of probably a thousand and one topics you can do this with.

#5 on my list is computers. This includes software, information on the Internet, marketing on the auction sites, or anything related to the computer, obviously, is hot. That’s doubly true if it’s the Internet.

#6 on my list is information for senior citizens. There are over 50 million seniors now. By the year 2005, there’s going to be over 80 million. This is a huge marketplace, and this can relate to health, too, because seniors are interested in health. They’re also interested in getting bargains. They’re interested in travel. They’re interested in finding vacation spots and new places to live.

This is big! #7 on my list is gambling. Gambling is huge in America now, and not just in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Reno, or Tahoe. Now there’s hundreds and hundreds of Indian gambling sites across the nation. There’s horse racing and dog racing.

People are into gambling whether it’s good for them or not, and the popularity is just unprecedented. Information on gambling, such as how to beat the black jack tables, how to beat roulette, and how to win at the ponies is really big now!

#8, I put personal relationships. #9, investment information - books on stocks, mutual funds, bonds, options, and what have you. People want to know how to invest money. This also can include real estate, buying foreclosures and all sorts of topics related to real estate as well as traditional and untraditional investments.

#10 on my list is kind of bizarre. #10 covers a wide variety of things from survival information (look at the people who made a fortune scaring the daylights out of people on the Y2K thing recently), and it also includes things as wild as flying saucers and alien visitation. I know of a company that is making money hand over fist with this.

That’s my list of the top ten things. There are many more things you can make money with, but give that some consideration because these ten topics are million dollar topics.
